Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Maine

One of the peninsulas that we explored had this wonderful, still functioning, light house. Pemaquid Light is the lighthouse depicted on the Maine State Quarter.

We were able to walk up the spiral staircase in the light tower….

And see the Fresnel Lens up close -so close that it was difficult to get a picture of the whole lens.

The whole area around the lighthouse was planted with beautiful rosa rugosa  (also known as beach roses) that made the air smell so sweet….

We walked down the rocks to sit closer to the water’s edge ……

The structure of the rocks  looked almost like trees laid on their side.

We sat watching the waves crash on the shore…….

And the occasional fishing boat go by……
