Wednesday June 15th – Popham State Beach, Maine – We took a drive out to walk on the beach…….
The beach was quiet, but we noticed the footprints of the people who had been there earlier.
Standing on the beach, listening to the waves and smelling the salty air….. brought back memories of times gone by……And in those footprints we could see you……our three, beautiful children…. running on the beach……blond heads and suntanned backs……The smell of salt and sand and suntan lotion mixed with that wonderful smell that little children have…..
Memories of digging in the sand……and building sand castles….finding ‘diggers’ and collecting them in a bucket. Riding the waves or jumping the surf……fearless.
Memories of walking with you, hand in hand……feeling the sand squish between our toes. Good times ….good memories……that we would not trade for anything…..
But….the beach, like life, is fluid…….. waves and wind…….shifting sand
Painting ‘sand pictures’……ever changing……
waves rolling in….washing away footprints…..
washing up pieces of driftwood……..or debris
changing the landscape……tearing down…building up…..creating anew.
How do you capture a memory? How do you make sure that you are so fully present that the ‘moment’ that you have is enough to last a life time? It never feels like it was ‘enough’…….one always want more….
But, just know that you are always in our thoughts and in our hearts….so dearly loved….
And though your childhood footprints have been long washed away, we will forever cherish those memories……even as we make so many new ones with each of you.
