Glacier NP – Lake McDonald & Fish Creek Campground

Saturday, Sept 4th – We awoke this morning to a howling wind……blowing and whistling around the hotel, sounding as only older buildings can. The day was pretty, and the forecast was good, but the wind was fierce and somewhat unnerving. We enjoyed a slow morning and hung out in the hotel lobby, until we decided that it was time to ‘brave the elements’ and head out.

Just as we were leaving the Many Glacier area……A momma bear and her two cubs came out….as if to say “goodbye”.

I think these are cinnamon colored Black Bears – though it is hard to tell. Black Bears can be brown and Brown (or Grizzly Bears) can also be black or blonde. You look for the shoulder hump for a Grizzly and larger ears and pointier face for the Black Bear.

The cubs are always soooo cute.

We were headed over to the west side of Glacier NP and the Lake McDonald area, about a 3 hour drive. We stopped awhile in passing through Browning,MT to use their library’s wireless internet (which we had discovered several days before) to check email and post on this blog. We arrived at Fish Creek Campground around 2 pm.

We spent a wonderful, lazy afternoon strolling along the lakeside beach. The temperature was in the 70’s…….sunny and warm……
